What Kate Covets: Seasonal Color Analysis
What is Seasonal Color Analysis?
Seasonal Color Analysis is the ultimate style hack—it’s the art and science of identifying the colors that naturally flatter your skin tone, eyes, and hair. Based on the seasons of nature (Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn), this method reveals the shades that make you look radiant and refreshed—and which ones dull you down. I use the 12-season system, which gets much more precise by factoring in your undertone (warm, cool, or neutral), depth (light to dark), and contrast level, so your palette is perfectly tailored to you.
There’s real science behind it: Undertone reflects how color pigment shows up on your skin. The wrong colors can emphasize redness, sallowness, or under-eye shadows, while the right ones balance and brighten your features, creating overall harmony. Studies even show that the colors we wear affect our mood and how others perceive our energy, confidence, and warmth.
Once you know your colors, everything gets easier: makeup, hair color, shopping, even cleaning out your closet. Seasonal Color Analysis takes the guesswork out of getting dressed and replaces it with clarity, and confidence that what you wear, will bring out the best in you!
Meet Kate: Founder of What Kate Covets
I come from a long line of glamorous women who knew how to turn heads. I loved studying them—how they moved, dressed, and effortlessly pulled a look together. Their beauty secrets were passed down like heirlooms, and I cherished every bit of unsolicited style advice. By four, I was staging backyard photoshoots. By eight, I was presenting interior design plans to my mom. Style, beauty, and color weren’t hobbies; they were my first language.
While I have come to appreciate my features, let’s just say that I had to learn how to make the most of them. I watched my mom teach other women to do the same as a top Mary Kay Consultant-earning her signature pink Cadillac along the way. That’s when I first heard the term seasonal color analysis, and I was mesmerized. Back then, the approach was rooted in the original four-season system. I spent years going deeper—devouring Color Me Beautiful and exploring Munsell Color Theory. I began applying these insights to my own wardrobe, hair, and makeup, and, of course, offering guidance to friends and family long before I ever made it official.
Professionally, I built my career in media and publishing, working at New York Magazine, The Cut, Us Weekly, and Fortune, where I saw trends up close. I realized I had a gift when celebrities and editors alike would ask where I got my dresses, earrings, or shoes. After a decade of informally doing color consults, I finally became certified and launched What Kate Covets—a space to help others discover the confidence that comes from dressing in harmony with who they are. My clients come for the seasonal palette—but stay for the “battle-tested” recommendations. I only share what I truly covet, whether it’s high-end or budget-friendly.
In 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost my hair, brows, and lashes. That chapter changed me profoundly. I learned how powerful beauty and color can be in restoring a sense of identity. “Look good, Feel Good” has real meaning to me. That experience deepened my mission to help others feel like themselves again and for that reason, I offer my services 100% free of charge to any woman undergoing cancer treatment.
Today, I’m an AI obsessed tech exec, wife, mom to a high-energy 4.5-year-old, grateful cancer survivor, and a forever style enthusiast. I live in Chatham, NJ—just 25 miles from my beloved NYC. Whether I’m seeing clients in my home studio, hosting seasonal color events, partnering with boutiques, or posting my most coveted fashion & beauty recs, my goal is always the same: to help you become the most radiant version of you.
